Y-DNA SNP
As the research in I subclades progresses, the scientific community routinely renames existing subclades to accommodate rapid growth of the Y-DNA phylogenetic tree. That means that as research progresses, your I subclade will continuously be re-assigned the latest name using the latest naming system.
If the name of your I Subclade changes, it does not mean that your results or SNPs have changed. It simply means that the name of your I Subclade has been updated to keep up with the latest naming nomenclature in this field.
Latest Updates:
February 27, 2009: New Haplogroup Assignment. The first batch of results for the new Haplogroup I subclade panel has now become available. If you had previously taken Version 1 of the I Subclade panel (19 SNP markers), you will receive a complimentary upgrade to the new Version 2 which contains 22 SNPs (i.e. 3 new SNPs will be tested for you for free). The results of the 3 new SNPs can be viewed from the Raw DNA section of your account (within the I Subclade panel). If you test positive for one of the 3 new SNP markers, you may receive a further refinement to your I subclade. Your I subclade will be automatically reassigned if the results of the 3 new SNPs provide further refinement in your situation.
How will the results of the 3 new SNPs affect my subclade? 1. If you test positive for L22 as your terminal SNP and had previously tested positive for M258 and M253, then you will be automatically classified as I1d. 2. If you test positive for L69=T as your terminal SNP and had previously tested positive for M258, M438, P37.2 and M425, then you will be automatically classified as I2a2b. 3. If you test positive for L38 as your terminal SNP and had previously tested positive for M258, M438, M436, then you will be automatically classified as I2b2.
Please note that if you test positive for L22 or L69=T or L38 but negative for the SNPs leading to the terminal SNP (i.e. upstream SNPs), then you will not be reclassified, even the one or more of the new SNPs is positive.
February 27, 2009: New naming nomenclature for I. The I Subclade naming nomenclature has been updated according to the latest naming system. All participants in the system will be automatically assigned the latest Subclade name using the new naming system. Please refer to the following table to view the old and the new names for the various Subclades of Haplogroup I:
