Full mtDNA Sequencing. Full mtDNA Sequencing test. This full sequencing test sequences the entire mtDNA, all 16,569 base pairs! It's the last mtDNA test ever needed as once the mtDNA is entirely sequenced, no further SNP panels for the mtDNA are required. This test will provide further subclade information for individuals from all mtDNA haplogroups. Orders now being accepted by special request. Please contact us at support@genebase.com if you are interested in proceeding with this test.

Y-DNA Haplogroup J Naming Nomenclature
As research into the R subclades progresses at a rapid pace, the scientific community routinely renames existing subclades to accommodate the rapid growth of the Y-DNA phylogenetic tree[http://www.genebase.com/resource/phylogeneticTree.php].  That means that as research progresses, your J subclade will continuously be re-assigned the latest name using the latest naming system.

If the name of your J Subclade changes, it does not mean that your results or SNPs have changed.  It simply means that the name of your J Subclade has been updated to keep up with the latest naming nomenclature in this field.

Latest Updates:
Oct 29, 2009:  Today, the J Subclade naming nomenclature has been updated according to the latest naming system in the Y-DNA phylogenetic tree.  Sixteen subclades have been renamed due to major rearrangement of J subclades.  All participants in the system will be automatically re-classified using the latest haplogroup or subclade name under the updated naming system.  Please refer to the following table to view the old and the new names of the various Subclades of Haplogroup J:

Oct 21 2009

Latest Updates:
Oct 21, 2009:  Today, the R Subclade naming nomenclature has been updated according to the latest naming system in the Y-DNA phylogenetic tree.  Two new subclades, R1b1b2a1 and R1b1b2a1a1d1a, have been identified and these two subclades can be confirmed by Stand Alone SNP Panels L51 and L47 respectively.  All participants in the system will be automatically re-classified using the latest haplogroup or subclade name under the updated naming system.  Please refer to the following table to view the old and the new names of the various Subclades of Haplogroup R:

The naming nomenclature for the Subclades of Haplogroup R has been updated today.  All R subclades for existing participants will be automatically updated according to the newest nomenclature.  Click here to view the latest naming system for the Subclades of Haplogroup R.

Feb 27 2009

The first batch of results for the new Haplogroup I subclade panel has now become available.  If you had previously taken Version 1 of the I Subclade panel (19 SNP markers), you will receive a complimentary upgrade to the new Version 2 which contains 22 SNPs (i.e. 3 new SNPs will be tested for you for free).  The results of the 3 new SNPs can be viewed from the Raw DNA section of your account (within the I Subclade panel).

New Haplogroup Assignment
If you test positive for one of the 3 new SNP markers, you may receive a further refinement to your I subclade.  Your I subclade will be automatically reassigned if the results of the 3 new SNPs provide further refinement in your situation.

New Naming Nomenclature
As the research in subclades progresses, the scientific community routinely renames existing subclades to accommodate growth of the Y-DNA phylogenetic tree.  That means that as research progresses, your subclade will be re-assigned latest name using the new naming system.  If your name changes, it does not mean that your subclade has changed.  It simply means that the name of your subclade has been updated to keep up with the latest naming nomenclature in this field.  Today, the I subclade tree has been updated according to the latest naming system and all participants will be assigned the latest haplogroup or subclade name using the new naming system.  Please refer to the following table to view the old and the new names for the various subclades of haplogroup I:

The three new subclades defined by the 3 new SNP are shown in "red" text in the table above.
Subclades that have received an updated name are shown in "blue" text in the table above.

How will the results of the 3 new SNPs affect my subclade?
1.  If you test positive for L22 as your terminal SNP and had previously tested positive for M258 and M253, then you will be automatically classified as I1d.
2.  If you test positive for L69=T as your terminal SNP and had previously tested positive for M258, M438, P37.2 and M425, then you will be automatically classified as I2a2b.
3.  If you test positive for L38 as your terminal SNP and had previously tested positive for M258, M438, M436, then you will be automatically classified as I2b2.

Please note that if you test positive for L22 or L69=T or L38 but negative for the SNPs leading to the terminal SNP (i.e. upstream SNPs), then you will not be reclassified, even the one or more of the new SNPs is positive.

Please refer to the table below for clarification of the SNPs associated with the various subclades of Haplogroup I:
